Guided by the vision of the best ophthalmology in which the patient is the reason for existence, professor Nikica Gabrić has been writing the history of Svjetlost since 1998.

Due to the atmosphere and the presence of numerous distinguished guests from the political, religious, economic, health and cultural fields of Croatia and abroad, it somewhat resembled a beehive.
600 guests, friends from 14 countries, came to celebrate the successes of Clinic Svjetlost with Professor Nikica Gabrić and his heirs, sons Ivan and Krešimir Gabrić, MD.
The evening began with a spectacular "Light Show". It was a game of emotions. In the official part of the program, the documentary "LEGACY" and the book "Creation of the Svjetlost" were shown, while representatives of the global companies Schwind Eye-tech-solutions and Johnson&Johnson presented awards for excellence on a global level.
The sculpture made from the stone of the family house from Metković, was a surprise of the evening, which brought tears of joy and applause from the entire hall.
The musical program was opened by the opera diva Marija Vidović, the legendary Tereza Kesovija, and the magnificent Doris Dragović. The icons of the Croatian music scene Gibonni, Grašo and Jole took care of the line of song, dance and smiles and that the celebration of the quarter of a century would be remembered.

At the 14th Congress entitled "New Trends in Ophthalmology", 40 leading lecturers from 3 continents gathered to present the latest achievements and knowledge in ophthalmology with special emphasis on cataract surgery, refractive surgery and treatment of retinological diseases.

The keynote speech was given by Professor Lucio Buratto, PhD, MD, pioneer of refractive surgery. On the occasion of his immeasurable contribution to the development of this respected profession, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for his special contribution to ophthalmology. "I wanted to see Gabrić's clinic because he is the leading surgeon in Europe. I strongly believe that time for learning never stops, and I see the future here," said Professor Buratto. The speciality of this congress is 'Live Surgery', where the doctors of the Svjetlost Eye Clinic presented 11 demanding operations to fellow ophthalmologists, showing the secrets of the trade, advanced surgical skills and the most modern technology. In addition to lectures and live surgery, practical training (Wet Lab) was organized for the first time in the region, lenticular laser surgery - the third generation of laser dioptre removal, PHACO Wet Lab and LipiFlow.
The work of the Svjetlost team was applauded by the President of the Republic of Croatia, Zoran Milanović, who received the organizers of the 14th Congress of the Croatian Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
