Professor Iva Dekaris, PhD President of the European Eye Banking Association (EEBA), has had an honor inaugurating the XXXII Annual Meeting of the European Eye Bank Association held in Hanover (Germany) from 16-18 January 2020.
At this expert meeting, as a member of the scientific and expert committee, she chaired the professional program, participated in the work screening presented at the conference, and was a member of the jury for the selection of the best scientific and professional work, which this year was awarded to a group of researchers from the University of Aachen (Germany) who are exploring the possibility of in vitro culturing of corneal endothelial cells. Besides, she led workshops to taught her colleagues, through practical examples, how to identify and treat various corneal diseases, and which corneal donors are best suited for a particular recipient of a corneal transplant.

The event was attended by over 300 physicians and eye banker technicals from all European countries and the Americas, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, and India.
Two more physicians from Svjetlost Eye Clinic were further educated regarding eye banking and corneal transplantation: Maja Pauk-Gulić, PhD and Adis Pašalić, MD.

At this meeting, it was agreed that Professor Iva Dekaris, PhD as a leading figure of the European Eye Banking Association (and on behalf of the EEBA Governing Council), will be actively involved in the work of the European Commission next month to adopt a new legal act on how to collect and use corneal donor tissue in Europe.
